Collection Overview
This collection contains approximately 40 glass plate negatives all taken between 1894 and 1909. Unless a specific date is cited, all photographs are assumed to be taken between 1894 and 1909. It is unknown if the photographs were taken by the same person. The negatives come in the three traditional glass plate negative sizes: 4 x 5 (24), 5 x 7 (14), and 8 x 10 (2). The majority of photographs are taken in Cambridge; however some are taken in Boston, Charlestown, Concord, Medford, and Watertown. There are four themes to the photographs: Cambridge locations, memorial sites of the American Revolution, historic homesteads, and Harvard College. Some photographs are unidentified. The negatives are in fragile condition. Also included in the collection is the original box that held the 5 x 7 negatives. Written on the top is the following: “The Magnet/ Dry Plate/Made By/ The United Photo Materials Co./Works Lewiston Maine USA.” It measures 5.5 by 7.5 by 1 inches. Prints from 16 of the negatives have been made. These are located in Box 4.
